THESIS SHOW
ARTIST STATEMENT
I was raised side-by-side with my twin brother. In some aspects I have always seen us as equal individuals, but overall, I grew up constantly trying to separate myself from him and embrace my own unique identity.
In my current work I am examining the similarities and differences between me and my brother, along with our perceptions and memories. For my thesis, I chose to recreate a home-like atmosphere that also reads as a contemporary art space. Our home was filled with different patterns of wallpaper, furniture, and clothing. Along with that, there were multitudes of framed portraits on the walls and the shelves. The framed collages in my exhibition represent the visual differences between my brother and I and our relationships with our ancestors. It’s intimate and textural but also gives the impression of the blurred memories we have of our past and how we have pieced them together in our present.
